It's Mental Health Awareness Month

Good day,

May is Mental Health Awareness Month. It is time for real conversations about our overall health and wellbeing.

Four Things Affecting your Mental Health:

  1. So much is happening in the world, and we are often exposed to it in ‘real time.’ We are constantly bombarded by BREAKING NEWS. The BREAKING NEWS icon grabs our attention, causes us to stop what we are doing, and initiates the stress response. Often, the BREAKING NEWS is something we could have learned later in the day. While these announcements may increase a news sources’ ratings, it creates anxiety for us.
  2. Another concern that influences our mental health is loneliness. We are not talking to each other. COVID and politics exacerbate lack of connection. Family members are no longer talking to each other. Not only that, but people also avoid making meaningful connections.
  3. We are prisoners of our cellphones. I scrolled Instagram the other day and watched a video post of people who were injuring themselves because their full attention was on their phone. It was hilarious and sad at the same time. One person walked into a pole. Another person stepped off a curb and fell. A woman walked into a flowing water fountain.
  4. Life is stressful and we need coping strategies that are long-lasting and easily incorporated into our lifestyles. That is one reason for "Stress Talk." We share strategic stress management and solutions focused self-care to help you manage and take good care. During the month of May we are going to have conversations to increase awareness about mental health.

About Mental Health Awareness Month

What to expect:

We have invited other mental health experts to join us on “Stress Talk” to talk about various aspects of mental health.

Our social media posts will share pertinent information, facts, and resources about mental health.

We will also go live periodically during the month to share mini tutorials to help you to know “where to start.”

If you or a loved one is struggling with a mental health concern, please remember that I offer free 15-minute consultations to potential clients to determine whether our working together is a good fit.

WHAT HAPPENED?!

In last month’s newsletter I announced two things that did not happen...

I planned to offer an information session to introduce my new mindfulness meditation program. The session will offer an opportunity for you to ask questions and to learn about the quarterly group mindfulness meditation program that I hoped to begin offering in May.

I also planned to go live on Instagram as well, offering demonstrations, practices, and practical ways to lower your stress levels through strategic stress management and solution focused self-care.

Please accept my apologies. My practice got super busy really fast. I focused on providing quality care.

As previously stated, I will share video posts on social media platforms throughout the month. Also, the information session announcement is forthcoming.

Do you have a question about mental health? Send it to me. The answer to your question may be featured in one of the video posts.

That's all for now.

As always, take good care
